DOWNSHIFTING: Garth Tander

1. What makes you laugh?

The random stuff my kids say/talk about. Skibidi, Aura, Demure, Yapping, it's all very amusing.

2. What’s on your playlist?

INXS, Coldplay, Hilltop Hoods, Metallica, Crowded House, Fat Boy Slim, Imagine Dragons, Oasis – it's pretty wide and varied.

3. What was the last movie you saw?

The last thing I sat and watched, in its entirety, was the Senna docuseries on Netflix. But a movie, at home, was Batman – The Dark Knight.  At the cinemas, I can’t remember, so it can’t have been that good.

4. One road, one car, one passenger?

The Back Spur, north-east of Melbourne; BMW M3; my partner, Sian.

5. Your dream car - to park and admire?

I own a 1969 Chev Camaro SS that’s pretty cool to look at when it's parked at a winery.

6. Your greatest motorsport success?

To have had a successful full-time career. The odds in favour of a kid from WA, with parents that could barely afford to fund my racing, were pretty slim. So, to have raced at the top level in Australia for 20-plus years and have had some success, that’s what I am most proud of. 

7. Your greatest failure?

Unloading Fabian Coulthard at the Gold Coast in 2016. It was my fuck-up and if I could change one moment in my career, that would be it.

8. Your one regret?

Not winning a couple more championships. I got close a couple more times but, for one reason or another, didn’t get the chocolates.

9. What is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate and soft drink. Together!

10. Which actor would play you in the movie of your life?

I quite like Matt Damon as an actor, so he could get the gig if he was free.
