DOWNSHIFTING: Nathan Prendergast

The top man at Supercars television is one of the busiest people on a race weekend and that's not the beginning or end of the story. He is passionate about all kinds of things beyond the Supercars' pitlane – including Top Fuel drag racing.

1. What makes you laugh?

Anything and everything. I have a very inappropriate sense of humour and I'm always cracking sarcastic comments. I’m fairly well known by those close to me for having a very twisted and sometimes politically incorrect quip or comment for a good laugh.

2. What’s on your playlist?

I have a very broad musical interest. I not only love the music I grew up with as a child but also love to DJ and have played hard house and techno at many a party, including the Darwin after-party last year. My go-to artists are Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica and Cold Chisel but I will also put on a hard-core DJ mix I've done with a mate or listen to 1990s and early 2000s dance, like Groovejet or Tori Amos. I honestly like all music if it makes me feel something then I play it.

3. What was the last movie you saw?

Wicked, and it was wicked.

4. One road, one car, one passenger?

I need to answer this twice. On bitumen it's the Bells Line of Road, with a Mercedes-AMG GT and Amanda, my wife. On dirt it's the Telegraph Track, My 200-Series LandCruiser and my dad.

5. Your dream car - to park and admire?

I've owned some nice cars, big-horsepower blown V8s and AMGs, but Ive always had a soft spot for Ferrari. The reality is that if money was no object I'd probably by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS because it's epic fast with everyday drive capability.

6. Your greatest motorsport success?

Just to be able to work with the world’s best and continue to make incredible television for whatever product I’m working on, whether that's drag racing, F1 or, of course, Supercars.

7. Your greatest failure?

Not reading the play accurately when I left Supercars. However, my favourite saying is “You don’t know what the bad is good for”, so every failure has been a lesson and often taken me down a path of further growth and knowledge.

8. Your one regret?

I always learn from my mistakes, or at least try to, so regret is a strong word. I most definitely regret the times where my passion in the heat of the moment has led to me being harsh with people during live broadcasts and stressful situations.

9. What is your guilty pleasure?

Djing and growing tomatoes. I have grown all different types of tomatoes this year and have had amazing success. It’s been very cathartic for me.

10. Which actor would play you in the movie of your life?

I think Chris Pratt would be a good fit. He doesn’t look like me, but the humour would match.
