DOWNSHIFTING: Roland Dane

The 'retired' trump at Triple Eight Racing Engineering still has plenty to keep him busy. So, what is the most successful Supercars team boss of the past 20 years thinking?

1. What makes you laugh?

Listening to Peter Cook and Dudley Moore play “Pete and Dud”. Google it. I’m stuck in a bygone age.

2. What’s on your playlist?

I’m not big on playlists, but my three favourite songs are: American Pie by Don Maclean, I can see clearly now by Jimmy Cliff and The Gambler by Kenny Rogers.

3. What was the last movie you saw?

Blazing Saddles, for the 20th time! Brilliant and totally non PC.

4. One road, one car, one passenger?

Moll’s Gap, from Killarney to Kenmare, in Ireland; Subaru Impreza 22B; a girl called Jennifer.

5. Your dream car - to park and admire?

Ferrari Dino 246GT in Azure Blue – as long as I don’t have to drive it. The best looking car of all time, but pretty rubbish to drive.

6. Your greatest motorsport success?

Bathurst 1000 in 2010, 1-2 finish by Triple Eight.

7. Your greatest failure?

Allowing at least seven Bathurst 1000 wins to get away from T8 on my watch.

8. Your one regret?

Not taking a job with the Theodore F1 team at the start of 1981 when I was offered the post of storeman and van driver.

9. What is your guilty pleasure?

Going to stupidly expensive restaurants in Japan to indulge in their superb cuisine.

10. Which actor would play you in the movie of your life?

 Cillian Murphy. (Oppenheimer, Peaky Blinders)
