Grand prix rookie Jack Doohan has successfully completed his first Formula One race in Abu Dhabi.

It was a tough initiation highlighted by the third practice session, when Doohan was just a couple of ticks slower than his Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly.

Doohan eventually qualified 17th and moved up two places to be 15th at the final flag.

The hard work has just began as he is now heading into post-season testing with Alpine as he prepares for his first full season in Formula One next year.

“It has been an incredible experience to make my Formula 1 debut and I am very grateful that they entrusted me to step into the car this weekend," said Doohan.

"Thank you to the whole team for making the transition as smooth as possible. It was fantastic to get back racing. I have learned a lot and gained a lot of experience.

"We finished sixth in the constructors’ championship, which is great. I am happy to have assisted where possible to achieve that, both this weekend and throughout the whole season behind the scenes."

"Congratulations to Pierre on his result in the race and also getting tenth in the Drivers’ Championship."

Doohan's effort was praised by the Alpine team principal, Oliver Oakes.

"Jack did well today and showed promising pace, matching the cars around him on similar strategies. It’s a great learning for him to take into next year," he said.

That's what it's about now for Doohan, who was joined by his legendary MotoGP father Mick in Abu Dhabi.

"I am looking forward to next season, kicking it off with my home race in Australia and continuing to work and progress with the team," he said.
