Race Rap: Monday, March 31

Playing with planes. Supercars champion Will Brown combined his two loves with a series of guest appearances at the Australian International Air Show at Avalon in Victoria. He drove his Camaro on one of the runways as air race champion Matt Hall flew just above him, renewing their Red Bull connection and shared passion for aviation.

Five and out. Marc Marquez claimed the Sprint race at the US Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas but that was the end of his early-season rout of his rivals in MotoGP. He fell in the main event, effectively handing victory to Francesco Bagnaia, with Alex Marquez continuing his strong form in third and Australia's Jack Miller coming home fifth for Yamaha, the first non-Ducati rider.

Lost wheel costs SvG. A loose wheel at a pitstop cost Shane van Gisbergen any hope of a competitive run when the NASCAR teams raced at Martinsville. He was battling poor handling even before the mishap, as victory was taken by Denny Hamlin – his sixth at the track but the first for 10 years – with Christopher Bell in second.

Golding stars in karts. Italian ace Mouritz Ebner might have done all the winning, but Supercars racer Jimmy Golding kept him honest through the first round of the Australian Kart Championship at Todd Road in Melbourne. The pair were racing in the elite KZ2 Gearbox class on a weekend where youngster Cooper Folley made a stunning start to his KA2 Junior campaign with a heat win.

Le Mans starts here. Hyundai is not racing its Genesis hypercar at Le Mans until 2026 but it has begun the program with a LMP2 car for this year's European Le Mans Series. The Genesis Magma Racing entry will be shared by Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert from the team’s Trajectory program, alongside highly experienced Daniel Juncadella.

Desert duellers. Toby Price and Paul Weel are out to make an early impact in the SCORE off-road series in the USA and have completed a successful test ahead of the San Felipe 250. Price will qualify and start the pair's Trophy Truck, running the first 180 miles (290 kilometres) before Weel takes over for the sprint to the finish.

Adelaide already underway. The entry list is already open for next year's Adelaide Motorsport Festival, even without a date. The booming classic showcase will, however, be set for the weekend immediately ahead of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
